Our First Lady

Supervisor Jannie McGhee

Jannie McGhee has touched and continues to touch the lives of thousands across the canvas of the Body of Christ.

She was born in Kingstree, South Carolina; graduated from Cades High School and attended South Carolina Area Trade School in Denmark, SC. There she majored in Seamstress Dressmaking & Tailoring. She designed dresses for wedding parties and many other formal occasions.

Though she was enjoying her new life after migrating to
New York, the Lord quickly called her into a life in Jesus Christ, Whom she accepted as her Lord and Personal Savior in 1968.

As a young woman attending the Healing Temple Church of God in Christ under the pastorate of the late Superintendent Clifford Adams, she was introduced to–and found favor in the eyes of–the tall and distinguished Willie McGhee who took her to be his bride in 1969. This beautiful union brought forth the fruit of five children, five grandchildren and a thriving troupe of spiritual children from far and near.

Sister McGhee proved herself through unfeigned willingness to do whatever her hands could find to do in the service of the Lord. In 1989, under the Supervisorship of the late Mother Evelyn Green, she was licensed as an Evangelist Missionary. Her love for the saints and working among them was equaled beautifully by her love for children, empowering her, in 1990, to establish her own licensed day care which she operated for over 20 years.

Among her many accomplishments, she was appointed District Missionary of the C. C. Adams Memorial District (New York Eastern Third Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction), complimented by her retirement from her business in 2013 to further assist her husband in his Pastoral Ministry of Bethlehem Church of God in Christ, Queens, NY. Moreover, she has served the Jurisdictional Department of Women in the capacities of Co-President of the Women’s Choir, Missionary Outreach and the Young Women’s Christian Council. In fact, the continuity of her service, faithfulness, commitment and dedication locally, regionally and jurisdictionally moved late Jurisdictional Prelate, Bishop Frank Otha White to award her and her family “Family of the Year.”

District Missionary McGhee has prepared herself for service through matriculation at the Mason Kelly Washington White Religious Training Institute, earning a certification in General Bible 1 & 2. Most notably, in 2007, she was featured in the New York Times and named “One of the Most Outstanding Persons in the Church” This devoted woman of God loves the Lord, is dedicated to His work and shares the same love with her family and all who are blessed to be partakers of her reservoir of Godly wisdom, her ardent labor, her skillful handling of “the distaff” and her anointed ministry of song. A modern-day Dorcas, she in turn, is well-loved and widely honored.
